Show Announcement:

C’est la Vie ("That's Life")
French for “That’s life,” C’est la Vie follows "Audrey", a thrill-seeking adventurist as she embarks on the fun, excitement, wonder, and intrigue of Paris for the very first time in her life. Although she went for the culture, little did she know she’d meet the love of her life in the midst of the fun and have the most fun she’s ever experienced. Utilizing a wide variety of music, vibrant colors, vivid thematic imagery, and a classic boy-meets-girl story line, "C’est la Vie" will be an exciting and vivacious affair for the entire audience from start to finish.

Music Selections:

“An American in Paris” - George Gershwin -

"Paris Sketches", Mvt. 2 - Martin Ellerby -

"Le Cygne" (The Swan) - Camille Saint-Saens -

"Paris Sketches", Mvt. 4 -

(Then more material from An American in Paris)

The following is the show's "timeline":

Intro - An American in Paris - Aggressive, fast, and in your face, this intro is meant to feature a full palette of color spread throughout the field, exciting drill evolution, and in-your-face music with a clear “paris” theme for everyone to clearly latch onto the thematic tone of the program.

Mvt. 1 - "The City"

Paris Sketches, mvt. 2

The sights, the sounds, the smells Audrey experiences…. All of the senses will be presented in the opening movement of the production. Paris Sketches, mvt. 2, has a very melodic and diverse soundscape with many opportunities for technical moments from the woodwinds, punchy moments from brass, and tasteful interludes from the battery. It will be an all-encompassing movement with a variety of visual and guard integrations to maximize the effect sheet through moods, looks, and settings on the field.

Mvt. 2 - Love at Louvre

Le Cygne - Camille Saint-Saens

Dramatic contrast from the first 3 minutes of the program.

Soloist moment. Maybe duet?

Two sides of the field, one for Audrey, one for boy

Meet at climax, drill or visual moment of famous french painting w/ Audrey and boy looking upon.

Mvt. 3 - Night at the Eiffel Tower

Paris Sketches, mvt. 4 then back into “American in Paris”

Lead into seamlessly via percussion within Paris Sketches, The programs culminates with the same piece (but different passage) that started the show, The Finale of the program ends as Audrey prepares to leave Paris and her newfound love behind. Thankfully, he agrees to join her and they run off into the sunset through the Eiffel Tower (drill form created by the musicians) ready to spend the rest of their lives happily ever after!

We will be utilizing very little props this year.  However we are again going to be utilizing two different tarps on the field for thematic development and visual resolution.  You might see a table, chairs and maybe a lamppost.  (Don't tell former parent Bill Jacob....)

Thank You and Goodbye! (or maybe just "See You Soon!")

Tonight Mr. De La Cruz announced to our students of his intentions of leaving his position at DCHS to become a full time drill writer, clinician and adjudicator.  Some of you may or may not have known that he has been traveling extensively for the past few years and has decided to forge a new career in these areas.  He will still be associated with our program because the Dublin Coffman Marching Band is one of his clients!  He will be writing our drill for the marching band show and are excited to keep him working with our students in this capacity.

Thank You Mr. De La Cruz for your tireless efforts for our students.
